Graduation hat on SAT test

On Wednesday, October 12, campuses across the district will host SAT School Day for our senior class. This is the third and final administration of the SAT for the Class of 2023 and an opportunity for students to improve their scores from when they took the SAT in December 2021 and March 2022.

The SAT is an assessment used by many colleges and universities to make college admission decisions.

While you may have heard that some schools are going “test-optional,” it is important for YES Prep students to sit for the exam because SAT scores may be required by some of the schools on their college list, and SAT scores are still required for many scholarship opportunities. The higher your SAT score is, the more options you will have!

This administration is the last opportunity some students will have to earn 1010 on the SAT, which is considered a “college ready” score. Earning 1010 means your child will not have to have to take any placement tests for what level of Math or English coursework they need to take in college. YES Prep will provide a guide to families regarding interpreting SAT scores in November to help you understand your son or daughter’s final SAT Score when it’s released in early November.

How is my son or daughter preparing

Seniors are currently participating in SAT preparation in Senior Seminar, using Khan Academy for personalized, official SAT practice. Please ask your son or daughter how Khan Academy is going and if they are having success practicing 45 minutes each week.
If your son or daughter's SAT score is below 1010, please talk with them about ensuring they are practicing in Khan Academy and/or participating in Unified Tutorials.

Why SAT School Day

Hosting SAT School Day at your student's YES Prep campus will allow access to the SAT for all YES Prep students and ensure a familiar testing environment to help reduce test anxiety and encourage focus on test day.

Please be sure you follow any SAT School Day directions sent home from your student’s school later in September so that you can be prepared and ready for the test day.

If for any reason, you or your student needs help or has questions on test day, please be sure to reach out to your college counselor or your campus director of college counseling.
