Wizard Families,
Thank you SO much to all who attended either our virtual or in-person Wizard Family Association meeting. We were so excited to welcome you back into the building after such a long time. Southeast parents and families have long been our fiercest allies and advocates in our mission towards empowering students to live choice filled lives upon graduation.
We spent some time learning about what you feel their children do really well, what hopes you have for them, and why you are choosing to join WFA. This space was a powerful reminder of the tremendous responsibility that our staff have each day. We are so grateful that you have chosen Southeast as the place for your children to learn and grow. We are also incredibly thankful for your transparency about the things that aren't working, and the ways that we can do better. We want to continue to hear from you and partner with you. Please join us at our next meeting on December 1st. We hope to see you there!

Muchas gracias a todos los que asistieron a nuestra reunión virtual o en persona de la Asociación de familias de magos. Estábamos muy emocionados de darle la bienvenida nuevamente al edificio después de tanto tiempo. Los padres y las familias del sureste han sido durante mucho tiempo nuestros aliados y defensores más feroces en nuestra misión de capacitar a los estudiantes para que vivan una vida llena de opciones después de la graduación.

School Issued laptops and Chargers
At the beginning of the school year, all students received a laptop and a charger to help support student learning. Students should be bringing their school issued laptop and charger daily to campus. If a student does not bring their laptop or charger, parents will be receiving a call from your child to bring the materials to school. Your child will also receive a demerit in HERO for being unprepared for class. We are also seeing a large number of laptops and chargers being damaged, destroyed or simply lost. Each laptop cost approximately $500. While we are happy to give each student a laptop to use for the year, free of charge, as a school we do not have the funds to consistently replace broken or damaged laptops. Just as a friendly reminder, please ensure school issued materials are being taken care of appropriately. Thank you!

Lottery Enrollment
It's that time of year again! The YES Prep lottery is officially open. If you know someone that would make a great Wizard in the YES Prep Southeast community, please encourage them to apply in our lottery at www.yesprep.org/lottery . We are now accepting applications for the 2022-23 school year for grades 6-12! Seats go quick, apply early.
Family Tour Dates
Calling all future Wizards! Do you know a student who would make a great Wizard? We want to invite all families interested in YES Prep Southeast to attend a Family Tour of the campus on November 11th from 9:00 - 10:00AM. The event will include information about the campus, an opportunity to meet and greet with students and a chance to have coffee and donuts with our Principal, Emily Ryans. Please share this with any families who may be interested in attending!

Anti-Bullying Week 2021: November 15-19
Anti-Bullying Week 2021 is happening from Monday Nov. 15th – Friday Nov. 19th and has the theme ‘One Kind Word’. It is coordinated by the Anti-Bullying Alliance, which is based at leading children’s charity the National Children’s Bureau. Our Southeast community will be putting our own spin on this week using this opportunity to raise awareness in our school community about the impact of bullying. This messaging will include defining bullying behaviors, knowing what steps to take if you or someone you know is being bullied, and the long-term impact it can have on friendships, self-esteem as well as emotional and mental health and wellbeing. Throughout the week we will challenge students to take part in specific task that embrace an atmosphere of compassion, kindness, and respect through SEL work and action oriented tasks.
- Monday: Advisory SEL Lesson (Education surrounding the impact of bullying)
- Tuesday: Nobody sits alone Challenge Day (Students will be encouraged to look beyond differences and find ways to start conversations with some new or sitting alone during lunchtime)
- Advisory Activity (Students will be provided space and time to create an Anti-Bullying Flag or create a Social Media campaign that embodies Southeast core values and includes knowledge learned from lessons previously heard)
- Thursday: Pass it on Challenge Day (Student will be challenged to participate in random acts of kindness around campus that will hopefully be replicated and passed on throughout the day)
- Friday: Friendship Friday (This day will be focused on students celebrating healthy friendships either verbally or written)
Restroom Policy
We have noticed that in the last 3 months, students are struggling to make good choices regarding managing their time wisely and keeping our community safe. This has impacted our entire community:
- High number of incidents in the restroom
- Over 400 tardy demerits issued between passing periods for students not utilizing time responsibly
- Between 60-100 students in the hallways during each class period after asking for a RR pass during class
Rather than ask teacher to determine if a student really needs to use the restroom, we are putting the responsibility back on students to better manage and utilize their opportunities for restroom access. We are intervening to (1) help students make better choices, (2) become more responsible for their time and (3) keep our community safe. We will implement individualized restroom trackers for students to utilize each week.
Students will receive their restroom tracker during Homeroom on Fridays for the following week and restroom trackers will have the dates pre-populated, and will be on brightly colored paper. We recognize that this will be a shift from the way we have operated in the past school years and we appreciate all of the assistance that you have and will provide as we support the current needs of our students and staff.

Semana Anti-Bullying 2021: del 15 al 19 de noviembre
La Semana Anti-Bullying 2021 se llevará a cabo desde el lunes 15 de noviembre hasta el viernes 19 de noviembre y tiene como tema "Una palabra amable". Está coordinado por Anti-Bullying Alliance, que tiene su sede en la principal organización benéfica para niños, la Oficina Nacional de la Infancia. Nuestra comunidad del sureste pondrá nuestro propio giro esta semana aprovechando esta oportunidad para crear conciencia en nuestra comunidad escolar sobre el impacto del acoso escolar. Este mensaje incluirá la definición de comportamientos de acoso escolar, saber qué pasos tomar si usted o alguien que conoce está siendo acosado y el impacto a largo plazo que puede tener en las amistades, la autoestima, así como la salud y el bienestar emocional y mental. A lo largo de la semana, desafiaremos a los estudiantes a participar en tareas específicas que abarquen una atmósfera de compasión, amabilidad y respeto a través del trabajo SEL y las tareas orientadas a la acción.
- Lunes: Lección SEL de asesoramiento (educación sobre el impacto del acoso)
- Martes: Nadie se sienta solo Día del desafío (se alentará a los estudiantes a mirar más allá de las diferencias y encontrar formas de iniciar conversaciones con alguien nuevo o sentarse solo durante la hora del almuerzo)
- Actividad de asesoramiento (se proporcionará a los estudiantes espacio y tiempo para crear una bandera contra el acoso o crear una campaña en las redes sociales que represente los valores fundamentales del sureste e incluya el conocimiento aprendido de las lecciones previamente escuchadas)

Política de baños
Hemos notado que en los últimos 3 meses, los estudiantes están luchando por tomar buenas decisiones con respecto a administrar su tiempo sabiamente y mantener a nuestra comunidad segura. Esto ha impactado a toda nuestra comunidad:
- Gran cantidad de incidentes en el baño
- Más de 400 deméritos por tardanza emitidos entre los períodos de transición para los estudiantes que no utilizan el tiempo de manera responsable
- Entre 60-100 estudiantes en los pasillos durante cada período de clase después de pedir un pase de RR durante la clase.
En lugar de pedirle al maestro que determine si un estudiante realmente necesita usar el baño, estamos devolviendo la responsabilidad a los estudiantes de administrar y utilizar mejor sus oportunidades de acceso al baño. Estamos interviniendo para (1) ayudar a los estudiantes a tomar mejores decisiones, (2) ser más responsables de su tiempo y (3) mantener a nuestra comunidad segura. Implementaremos rastreadores de baños individualizados para que los estudiantes los utilicen cada semana.
Los estudiantes recibirán su rastreador de baños durante el salón principal los viernes durante la semana siguiente y los rastreadores de baños tendrán las fechas pre-pobladas y estarán en papel de colores brillantes. Reconocemos que esto será un cambio de la forma en que hemos operado en los últimos años escolares y apreciamos toda la ayuda que usted tiene y brindará mientras apoyamos las necesidades actuales de nuestros estudiantes y personal.
