Wizards Families,

As we approach the final week of the first semester of the 21-22 school year, I find myself astounded at how the time has passed. While adjusting back to a fully in person campus this year has brought immense challenges and surprises, we have pulled together in so many ways to continue elevating achievement for our Wizards. I plan to share some major milestones in next week's Family Notes, but I wanted to use this week to remind us all of the impact of this upcoming week.

For the class of 2022, this will be the end of their final first semester as high school students. The weight that it carries to feel adulthood coming at you fast and furious can cause a variety of thoughts and feelings from our most mature Wizards. For the class of 2025, this will be the end of their first semester of high school, where grades and GPA suddenly have a very different meaning that they are still working to understand. Many of them have used this semester wisely, but others may begin to feel the pressure of the choices they've made that impact what the spring looks like for them. There are other students who will approach this week of winter festivities with excitement and adrenaline, wanting to squeeze very last drop of joy into the week with their friends and teachers. They find happiness and joy in a season such as this. Other students may find themselves with a very long to-do list as they work with their teachers to make sure they have completed all assignments, submitted retakes, or turned in projects.

Here are a few ways you can help your students show up to have a strong final week of our first semester: 

(1) Focus on finishing strong. There are many celebrations happening this upcoming week, and we are so excited to spend times of joy with our Wizards. One way that students will be able to fully enjoy those celebrations is if they are focused on closing out the semester strong and thinking about their goals. Encourage them to connect with their teachers to make sure they've completed all assignments and projects.

(2) Stay Connected. There are lots of events happening this week. Please check out our calendar and make sure that you know what events are happening and how you and your family can stay plugged in!

A medida que nos acercamos a la última semana del primer semestre del año escolar 21-22, me sorprende cómo ha pasado el tiempo. Si bien el ajuste a un campus completamente en persona este año ha traído inmensos desafíos y sorpresas, nos hemos unido de muchas maneras para continuar elevando los logros de nuestros Wizards. Para la clase de 2022, este será el final de su primer semestre final como estudiantes de secundaria. El peso que conlleva sentir que la edad adulta te ataca rápida y furiosamente puede provocar una variedad de pensamientos y sentimientos en nuestros magos más maduros. Para la clase de 2025, este será el final de su primer semestre de la escuela secundaria, donde las calificaciones y el GPA de repente tienen un significado muy diferente que todavía están trabajando para comprender. Muchos de ellos han usado este semestre sabiamente, pero otros pueden comenzar a sentir la presión de las decisiones que han tomado y que impactan cómo se ve la primavera para ellos. Culture Day: December 17th

Friday, December 17 our campus will host its final culture day of 2021. Culture days at Southeast are of time for our students and staff to reconnect, reset, and enjoy time as grade levels. Staff have planned engaging lessons on gratitude as well as ending the day supporting our seniors at their annual Winter YEStival as they raise money for their Senior Prom. Students can purchase pre-sale tickets during their designated lunch or during YEStival.

El viernes 17 de diciembre nuestro campus será el anfitrión de su último día cultural de 2021. Los días culturales en el sureste son un momento para que nuestros estudiantes y personal se reconecten, reinicien y disfruten del tiempo como niveles de grado. El personal ha planeado lecciones interesantes sobre gratitud, así como también terminar el día apoyando a nuestros estudiantes de último año en su YEStival anual de invierno mientras recaudan dinero para su graduación de estudiantes de último año. Lottery Enrollment

It's that time of year again! The YES Prep lottery is officially open.  If you know someone that would make a great Wizard in the YES Prep Southeast community, please encourage them to apply in our lottery at www.yesprep.org/lottery .  We are now accepting applications for the 2021-22 school year for grades PK-3rd and 6-12! Seats go quick, apply early.

Family Tour Dates

Calling all future Wizards! Do you know a student who would make a great Wizard? We want to invite all families interested in YES Prep Southeast to attend a Family Tour of the campus on December 16th from 9:00 - 10:00AM. The event will include information about the campus, an opportunity to meet and greet with students and a chance to have coffee and donuts with our Principal, Emily Ryans.  Please share this with any families who may be interested in attending! Loaner Laptops

We will no longer be issuing loaner laptops for students who forget their technology at home. Please remind your child daily to bring their fully charged laptop and charger to school. If a student does not have their technology, they will receive a demerit for class preparedness. They will also receive a printed hand copy of the lesson. HELP NEEDED!! Seasonal Recruiter Program

Overview

YES Prep’s Seasonal Recruiter Program is a 6-week program focused on assisting all YES Prep campuses in getting more student applications within their zone. The program is seeking dedicated, enthusiastic, and mission-driven parents or alumni for the role of YES Prep Seasonal Recruiter. The YES Prep Seasonal Recruiter role offers YES Prep parents and alumni an opportunity to develop professionally and help expand the school’s community. YES Prep Seasonal Recruiters will receive training to support student recruitment and outreach activities and create connections with new families in the school’s community. 

Through a part-time commitment of approximately 10 hours per week, YES Prep Seasonal Recruiters will work with the assigned campus Ops team to connect with the broader community, help raise the awareness and visibility of YES Prep, and support the drive toward the school’s student recruitment goals.

This role is a temporary part-time contractor position that may require work on some weekends, evenings, and holidays. 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Current or past parent/guardian of a YES Prep student OR alumni
• Outreach and communication experience are welcome
• Experience working with a team

Knowledge/Skills Required:

• 100% aligned with the mission of YES Prep Public Schools
• Available to work ~10 hours per week during weekends, evenings, and holidays
• Excited to learn and grow
• Results-oriented
• Strong communication skills
• Familiarity with online and productivity tools (Spreadsheets, SchoolMint, etc.)
• Active and responsive parent, if applicable

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Work with campus Ops team to execute student recruitment opportunities, including canvassing, tabling, calling campaigns, community events, etc.
• Speak to future families about the mission, academic, and cultural experience of YES Prep 
• Assist future families with application completion or signing up for a campus tour or visit
• Canvassing, tabling, and flyering in the field and working outdoors, monitoring environmental conditions, and taking appropriate safety precautions for the pandemic environment

Compensation:

YES Prep Seasonal Recruiters will receive $1500 in two separate payments ($750 after the first three weeks and $750 at the end of the program).

Materials Needed:

• Tablet/Hot Spot (At campus discretion)
• Recruitment Kit: Paper apps, SWAG, Flyers, Door hangers, Folders, Tablecloth, Pens

Laptops en préstamo
