Student IDs

YES Prep Wizard Families:

As we  finish week 1 strong we want to remind you that your student(s) should wear their YES Prep Issued ID on a lanyard every day when entering the building. Students received an ID and a lanyard on the first day of school, if your student was not present on the first day of school they should have received their ID/lanyard from their Dean of Students or the Front Office.

If a student does not wear their ID/Lanyard, they will receive a demerit. If the student loses their ID or lanyard, they may purchase a replacement at the front office. 

Having students wear their ID is how we identify a student in our building and how we keep them accountable to our school policies and expectations. Please help us in reminding your student to have their ID and lanyard before they enter our building.

Como estamos terminando la semana 1 con fuerza, queremos recordarle que su (s) estudiante (s) debe (n) usar su identificación emitida por YES Prep en un cordón todos los días al ingresar al edificio. Los estudiantes recibieron una identificación y un cordón el primer día de clases, si su estudiante no estuvo presente el primer día de clases, debería haber recibido su identificación o cordón de su decano de estudiantes o de la oficina principal.

Si un estudiante no usa su ID/Lanyard, recibirá un demérito. Si el estudiante pierde su identificación o cordón, puede comprar uno de reemplazo en la oficina principal.

Welcome to the 22-23 School Year. If I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting you, my name is Emily Ryans, and I am the principal here at YES Prep Southeast Secondary. This is my third year with the Southeast Community, and I continue to be grateful to be here. We are so excited that you and your families have chosen YES Prep Southeast. As our flagship campus, we understand the importance of our work with your children in ensuring they are set up for success and have access to the highest quality educational opportunities. I hope you will find ways to get connected---with our Wizard Family Alliance, supporting after school clubs, performance groups, and athletics, or volunteering once opportunities become available. We can't wait to connect with you!

Bienvenidos al año escolar 22-23. Si aún no he tenido el placer de conocerlos, mi nombre es Emily Ryans y soy la directora aquí en YES Prep Southwest Secondary. Este es mi tercer año con la Comunidad del Sureste y sigo agradecida de estar aquí. Estamos muy emocionados de que usted y su familia hayan elegido YES Prep Sureste. Como nuestro campus principal, entendemos la importancia de nuestro trabajo con sus hijos para garantizar que estén preparados para el éxito y tengan acceso a oportunidades educativas de la más alta calidad. Lockdown Drill

This Wednesday, we will be practicing our first Lockdown Drill. Please speak with your student(s) about the importance of the drills and why we practice them. It is important that all students are following directions, quiet and listening well as we navigate through the exercise. Please reach out to Jacob.Barton@yesprep.org with any questions or concerns.

Morning and Afternoon Traffic

At Southeast, we open our doors to students and families beginning at 8:00am Monday - Friday. We understand the frustrations as we navigate through back to back dismissals with the Elementary next door and we want to thank you for your patience as families and students get acclimated to the dismissal process. We will continue to have an officer at the Crenshaw and S. Shaver light directing traffic to clear the street. In addition, it looks like the city is just about done installing the lights for the gates on S. Shaver. In the next few weeks, please expect an update to our traffic pattern as there will be a new entrance and exit.

Simulacro de aislamiento

Este miércoles practicaremos nuestro primer simulacro de encierro. Hable con su(s) estudiante(s) sobre la importancia de los simulacros y por qué los practicamos. Es importante que todos los estudiantes sigan las instrucciones, se mantengan en silencio y escuchen bien mientras realizamos el ejercicio. Tráfico matutino y vespertino

Cell Phone, Smart Watch and Air Pods

Starting Thursday 8/18/22, students will have their cell phones, smart watch, and air pods taken if these items are seen or heard. The only time students are permitted to have their phone is before school until 8:25, during lunch and activity time, and after 4:00pm. All teachers should have students place their phones in the provided cell phone pockets during class. Students should not take their cell phones out of the pocket for any reason and if they go to the restroom, the cell phone should still remain in the pocket. If you have an emergency during school hours, please call our front office instead of your child. This way we can provide them with any support they may need. As a general rule, if the technology is not seen or heard then it won't be taken. If technology is taken, it must be turned in and logged in the front office and an adult guardian must come to retrieve the cell phone and pay $15 for it’s return.

Dress Code Infractions

In an attempt to hold our students to high expectations, we will issue auto detentions for several dress code infractions. Please speak to your child about the importance of wearing appropriate attire daily.

Starting Thursday 8/18/22, students can receive an Auto-Detention for the following dress code infractions:

• Crop Tops (even if covered by a jacket)
• Slides
• Bottoms of Inappropriate length (sagging, above mid-thigh, etc)
• Yoga Pants/Tights
• Gym Shorts/Basketball shorts (except during PE)

Teléfono celular, reloj inteligente y cápsulas de aire

A partir del jueves 18/8/22, a los estudiantes se les quitarán sus teléfonos celulares, relojes inteligentes y cápsulas de aire si ven o escuchan estos artículos. El único momento en que los estudiantes pueden tener su teléfono es antes de la escuela hasta las 8:25, durante el almuerzo y la actividad, y después de las 4:00 p. m. Todos los maestros deben hacer que los estudiantes coloquen sus teléfonos en los bolsillos provistos para teléfonos celulares durante la clase. Los estudiantes no deben sacar sus teléfonos celulares del bolsillo por ningún motivo y si van al baño, el teléfono celular aún debe permanecer en el bolsillo. Si tiene una emergencia durante el horario escolar, llame a nuestra oficina principal en lugar de su hijo. De esta manera podemos brindarles cualquier apoyo que puedan necesitar. Como regla general, si la tecnología no se ve o no se escucha, no se tomará. Si se toma la tecnología, debe devolverse y registrarse en la oficina principal y un tutor adulto debe venir a recuperar el teléfono celular y pagar $ 15 por su devolución.

Infracciones del código de vestimenta

En un intento de mantener a nuestros estudiantes con altas expectativas, emitiremos detenciones automáticas por varias infracciones al código de vestimenta. Hable con su hijo sobre la importancia de usar ropa adecuada todos los días.

A partir del jueves 08/18/22, los estudiantes pueden recibir una detención automática por las siguientes infracciones al código de vestimenta:

• Crop Tops (incluso si están cubiertos por una chaqueta)
• Diapositivas
• Partes inferiores de longitud inapropiada (flacidez, por encima de la mitad del muslo, etc.)
• Pantalones/medias de yoga
• Pantalones cortos de gimnasia/pantalones cortos de baloncesto (excepto durante educación física)

Aspire

Wizard families! My name is Jackie Melendez and I am the new ASPIRE Coordinator at Southeast Secondary. ASPIRE is an after school program for students 6th-12th  where students can engage safely in after-school activities, Monday-Friday 4-6pm.  

ASPIRE will have a homework club where students can do their homework and then engage in different activities like video games, outdoor sports and table games. This is a great space for our younger wizards, but it is open for all grades. Aspire homework clubs will be ran by approved college students who have completed background checks through our district office.

Other clubs will be led by Southeast teachers, and they will recruit students and share information via homeroom announcements. So keep an eye out for homeroom announcements.

If you are interested in having your student join the ASPIRE after-school program, there will be a mandatory parent meeting on Wednesday Sept 7th at 5pm in the cafeteria.

Athletics

Hello Wizard nation!  I hope you are ready to get HYPE (highlight YES Prep Excellence).  Starting Monday August 8th all Varsity Fall sport teams will begin practicing.  We will have Middle school Volleyball tryouts 8/19/22 after school and middle school Cross country tryouts will be 8/24/22 after school.  In order to tryout Students should have a physical on file.  If you have any questions regarding Athletics please reach out to Chris Garcia.  Lastly, for all Athletic updates please follow our Instagram page @YPSE.Athletics.  GO WIZARDS!

Unified Tutorials

If you are a parent of a student that did not pass their STAAR test in Math 7, English 7, Algebra 1, Biology, English 1, English 2. They will be required to attend mandatory Unified Tutorials.

Unified Tutorials will be ran by qualified Southeast staff to prepare students for the next administration of their STAAR test. Tutorials will be intentional in targeting specific areas of growth for each cohort.

There will be a parent meeting on Sept 8th in the cafeteria at 5pm to discuss more details. If your student is required to attend, we will send communication via parent email, cardstock, and your student will also receive a physical letter.

• Unified Tutorials begin September 12th
• Tuesday & Wednesday from 4-5:30pm.
• Select Saturdays 8:30-12:30pm
• Transportation Will be available

Aspire

¡Familias de magos! Mi nombre es Jackie Melendez y soy la nueva coordinadora de ASPIRE en la escuela secundaria del sureste. ASPIRE es un programa extracurricular para estudiantes de 6.° a 12.° donde los estudiantes pueden participar de manera segura en actividades extracurriculares, de lunes a viernes de 4 p. m. a 6 p. m.

ASPIRE tendrá un club de tareas donde los estudiantes pueden hacer sus tareas y luego participar en diferentes actividades como videojuegos, deportes al aire libre y juegos de mesa. Este es un gran espacio para nuestros magos más jóvenes, pero está abierto para todos los grados. Los clubes de tareas de Aspire estarán a cargo de estudiantes universitarios aprobados que hayan completado las verificaciones de antecedentes a través de nuestra oficina del distrito.

Otros clubes estarán dirigidos por maestros del sureste, y reclutarán estudiantes y compartirán información a través de anuncios en el salón de clases. Así que esté atento a los anuncios de salón de clases.

Si está interesado en que su estudiante se una al programa extracurricular ASPIRE, habrá una reunión obligatoria con los padres el miércoles 7 de septiembre a las 5:00 p. m. en la cafetería.

Atletismo

¡Hola, nación de magos! Espero que esté listo para obtener HYPE (resalte YES Prep Excellence). A partir del lunes 8 de agosto, todos los equipos deportivos Varsity Fall comenzarán a practicar. Tendremos pruebas de voleibol de la escuela intermedia el 19/8/22 después de la escuela y las pruebas de campo traviesa de la escuela intermedia serán el 24/8/22 después de la escuela. Para hacer una prueba, los estudiantes deben tener un examen físico en el archivo. Si tiene alguna pregunta sobre atletismo, comuníquese con Chris García. Tutoriales unificados
Si usted es padre de un estudiante que no pasó su prueba STAAR en Matemáticas 7, Inglés 7, Álgebra 1, Biología, Inglés 1, Inglés 2. Se les requerirá que asistan a Tutorías Unificadas obligatorias.
  
Las tutorías unificadas estarán a cargo de personal calificado de Southwest para preparar a los estudiantes para la próxima administración de su examen STAAR. Los tutoriales serán intencionales al enfocarse en áreas específicas de crecimiento para cada cohorte.
  
Habrá una reunión de padres el 8 de septiembre en la cafetería a las 5:00 p. m. para discutir más detalles. Si se requiere que su estudiante asista, le enviaremos una comunicación por correo electrónico a los padres, cartulina, y su estudiante también recibirá una carta física.
